anxiety

I live with anxiety, I won't say I suffer from anxiety as for the most part I have adapted and learned to accept my anxiety. At the same time, unchecked I sometimes do suffer and more over my family does.
Anxiety is deep routed in the human species, it was what kept us alive when we had greater dangers around us all the time. For the most part as we have built safer homes and communities the human body has made adjustments and adjusted to our lives. Unfortunately for some of us it is still on high alert, this can come from many causes in our lives but is truly not uncommon.
My anxiety hits me in two primary ways. One is physically, through the shoulders and down to my stomach. The other is my head. This is the big one, my head is naturally a bit of an echo chamber, I analyze everything, but when my anxiety grows the echo chamber gets louder, thoughts don't clear after a couple sounding like we are use to hearing in a canyon or a cave. Instead it can get to be more like reverb on an an electric guitar, it consumer's me, and I can't clear the volume. I become distracted, I try to quit the sound but I end up blocking everything out. The challenge is it is like a frog in water as it starts to boil. You don't notice the change, your assumenyour being a bit extra diligent... and then you realize you are obsessing on thoughts, you are distracted and your really not sure how long you have been gone. The realization can often be the biggest blow. I work to put the pieces back together, I am gentle to myself and often more sensitive to this around me. I build back up and carry on. Some never notice, many may assume I am tired and well one person is always here.
This is my life, from it I have developed some amazing skills, from it I have also hurt people and made quick decisions that have had major impacts on my life. I have spent the last year trying to understand it better, learning more about the human condition and knowing I won't get rid of it, but seeing how I can live with it.
Still I fall down, but I fall down carrying a big load then I could have in my past. One piece at I time I put the puzzle back together again, checking pieces for cracks, cleaning up little flaws and hoping that maybe this will be the last time I fall this far.

A point in History

in the last 12 months has been one of the most interesting times many of us will see. So many things happening, world wide efforts and all people on the planet given an opportunity to come together to beat a single threat. That's the Macro...

On the micro side we have all taken our own roller coaster. Many of us have a new perspective on life, many of us are trying to find our path again and a number of us have just continued to grow.

Through history events like this have brought groups together and most often redirect society. Its brings us to a crucial point in time once again. We choose to focus on community and become a cohesive unit or we create a divide that will take decades to heal. Right now is that time. What are you doing? Are you strong enough to try and understand others perspectives or are you still struggling with your demons and need to figure yourself out first?

In the end if we can't work together if we keep pushing out and pushing for levels of independence that devide us as community we will suffer. As they did in the past tribes will divide and communities will drift. Embrace your community, embrace differences but recognize all our similarities.

Anxiety

I sit quietly, a proverbial weight on my chest. My breathing not as smooth as I would like it. My stomach starts to turn. The weight of the world pushes down on me. My greatest flaw, my desire to make everyone happy sits heavy on me today. Deep in my mind I know it is all in my control, but in this moment I feel like nothing is.

So often the weight of the world presses down on many of us. We look around and wonder how many others feel this way, how are those people so happy, is it a mask or true happiness. For many it is happiness, and for one simple reason, they focus on making themselves happy, they know they can only control how they react to the world, not how the world reacts to them.

Take a moment, breath and take control back. Remember you need to be yourself, you need to be happy and that comes from within. You must let the comments and looks role off you back and pick yourself up. Once you release yourself from others judgement you will start to feel free, one thought at a time, it is a journey and you will get there.

Self Reflection

We move forward day to day, sometimes conscious, sometimes not. At some point we stop and look at ourselves in the mirror, have I learned those wrinkles, what lesson did that grey hair come from?

Self reflection can be scary, especially when we don't recognize ourselves for a moment. Time has a way of shaping us, especially when we are just keeping up. We start to get tired, and slowly we still our selves down to raw emotion, we survive. We look in the mirror and we dont recognize ourselves, so we start building a wall, we don't want to completely lose who we are. We work harder and the wall gets higher, we build stronger defences and slowly find ourselves on an well fortified island, to high up to know when someone is helping or fighting us.... we look in the mirror and see a ghost.

Most of us have gone through this one way or another, we start making big changes more out of fear, trying to find what we once thought was humanity. We lost ourselves in our emotions and, well, emotions are irrational beasts built for survival, not for striving.

Take a moment each day to get to know yourself again. Reflect on your lessons, don't get scared or mad if you haven't reached your goal. Reflect, see all the lessons, get up, dust yourself off and try again. Sometimes we see a second or third or tenth attempt as pitiful, I was often told second place is the first loser. But really trying again is what truly makes us human, that is the meaning of life, getting up again and being awesome. Believe in yourself, and know that all those changes you have made are good, they are part of who you are. When you reflect try to find the balance between emotional and rational. Listen to your calm mind and you will concur.

doubt

Some days I feel like my brain is infected. As if a poison is slowly taking over. I feel exhaustion, and fear, I feel doubt and regret, but I still feel drive.

And I guess the reality is in many ways my brain is poisoned. Doubt is poison! It builds from small failures, it grows from small disappointments. You start to focus on the bad, you start to lose sight of the success. Doubt can easily become depression, and often build into anxiety. We sit with screens in front of us, not looking at our lives but those of our peers, we look at their lives from miles away but then reflect on ours with a microscope. We build fear that we are not equal. This doesn't happen in large movements but small unconscious thoughts.

Break the cycle, reinforce your success. Stop peering into the lives of others and be present in your own. We are all waging our own battles, some of us have words for it, others know the feelings and some are completely consumed. So start adding those suttle pat's on the back, start complementing people for their small success. Take in nature and let it overwhelm the doubt for once. One day, one step at a time.

Ive got this.

I've got this.

How does it sound when you say those words? Do you add emphasis, I've got this! Or is it a quiet voice almost a whisper trying to convince yourself.

We all have a little voice in our head, when we are confident we echo, I've got this! Is a statement of confidence. When we are struggling, I've got this is a whisper, a hope, sometimes a question. If we fall down, sometimes we start answering that question, with "maybe..." or "no you don't". We slip away and our little voice becomes an anchor.

We need to break that chain of pessimism,  we need to find that confidence. We need to believe in ourselves, put the work in so we can shout it to the mountains.

Wake up and tell yourself "I've got this! I am going to kick butt!" Use the same words you hear in your head but make them strong. Shake off that whisper and shout. You've done this before, you have more experience, it's time to shine.

Believe in yourself, let a slip be a learning lesson, let a bad day be in the past. Focus on taking control one statement at a time. Drown out your whisper and hear your voice boom!

I've got this!!

Split Values.

How do you truly reflect when that means seeing your faults, admitting them to yourself and then... and then the world. When the world has thought you there is no room for error. 2nd place is the first loser, and then the world thought you, don't hurt anyone feelings, make sure to always be positive.

My generation has grown up in a simple time with old rules, that transitioned into a complex, over messaged, confusing pile of emotions. We all want what is best for those around us, to the point that many of us forget about ourselves. People are so sensitive that instead of asking us if we want to talk they suggest we should be medicated to help with our depression. There is a pill for everything and a new gadget to make it easier.

So how do we find ourselves, how do we become amazing while balancing the expectations of the generations before us with the generations after us. How do we accept that we will hurt some people and sometimes in doing this lift others up. How do we reduce the filter without taking it right off. I wish there was  simple answer, but that's the thing, nothing is simple anymore... until we find ourselves that is. Once we choose who we will be, once we accept that some people aren't going to like what we have to say, we can move forward. We can challenge our norms and find out who we are.

As we strive forward building our own future we can create a balance between traditional values and sensitivity for everyone. We will be the change, we have the power within us we just have to stand up and speak. Stand up and take what is ours.

Love

One of the greatest risks in life is love. Such a simple emotion but the most complex of all. Many have lost all they have based on love. But the most successful have love or no love at all.... And we  all have one thing we love in  life..... Knowing this will define your life.

You choose to love someone or something. You love a dream and nothing can get in your way! It would seem at this that to gain success you are  then crippled by loving someone, instead of something. On the surface this is true.... But it is so much more then that.

Firstly success is measured on many levels, for many, true enduring love is success in itself, for some uninterrupted wealth equals success, so how do you get both?

Communication!!!!

Find someone you love, and within part of this love should be a singular goal. If this goal is in-sync with your love then everything you do will be about your love. Each step, each thought will be for your partner. (Now I use the term partner very strategically, a partner is someone you trust and vest, decisions are not made without their input, choices are a compromise to benefit all concerned) as you step forward it is for the benefit of both. You are so focused on the success of all that you have no choice but to move forward. You fight for everything. You do not focus for one but for two, and so does your partner and you trust that unconditionally.

As both parties choose a focus sacrifices will be made, life will fluctuate and change but the end goal will appear on a single axis.  As a single unit you will adjust and accept risk. Life will have its ups and it will have its downs but as partners you will understand and accept the moves made by your loved one.

Now... In saying this accept that communication is key accept that knowing the final goal is the most important part. As you move forward if you have not agreed upon the final result then each step will be questioned, fights will spark..... But.... if communication is clear.... then each step will make sense, limited hesitation will exist. We will move forward knowing that each step is part of the larger battle... Within.... Reason...

One must leave any personal feelings out of this... This comes to this first feeling, that feeling is love and is the most risky emotion...

For some, I leave this short... For those that know, or will soon understand I leave this now as I know no other way to explain true trust, true love... For those that know can truly let go and believe that what they do is for both, is trusted and will create benefit for both partners! If you believe this, take the risk, move forward, fight! Take the risk! I believe you will only gain... As I know now, I can only gain with my partner.... Worst case you loose 50℅.... In that case the am sorry as it will feel like more... For the rest... Like me... Enjoy, fight and win!!! Knowing if nothing else you have loved! And know love like no other!!!

A moment

A moment to gather my thoughts, yet they are still scattered. A moment to try and reflect on all my recent considerations, yet they escape me. My soul is at piece, I smile I laugh, yet my mind remains so unfocused. How do I bring it together?

Like so many, pulled in so many directions that it is easy to forget what way is forward. Driving on, one step at a time, but some days I swear I have done this before. Without focus we are lost, without focus we can walk in a circle for days!

I take a moment to reflect, realizing that is my challenge, I focus on the past, and not the future. Our past though complete can leave us with so many questions, but is best if it just leaves us with lessons. History is the one thing we have no control of, so to dwell is to be lost. So I turn now, I look forward, knowing forward is whatever direction I choose. One step focus on tomorrow, focus on growing focus on living in the present.

Choosing a path.

I know where I am going! I know how I am getting there! And I know when I will arrive! But is that where I want to be?

As we head down a path, no matter if we have stumbled upon it or carefully chosen it among other option, we have a trejectory, a direction and focus. As we go down this path we will see other paths, some going in different directions, some parallel, some less traveled and some paved and smooth. For some it is hard to look at these paths, focus on their path is specific and strong, for others it is impossible to not look at these other paths, they are tempting, intriguing!

No matter if we are distracted by the other paths or focused on our existing path, we need to take time to reflect, make sure we are headed to the destination we want. Sometimes we get so focused on the journey, on a path we chose years ago that we forget where we are going, we don't check our supplies and we just keep pushing forward for the sake of pushing forward. No matter how tough or easy the path we continue to walk, run or crawl.

So take a moment and check you destination, make sure you still want what you were headed for, and have what you need to get there. If you do push more, work even harder and drive forward? If not what do you want, how do you get there and what do you need on the path you choose? We all have the power to choose our path, no matter how far we are on our current path we can choose the path that will give us what we need!

Go forward, choose your path and be happy with the fact that you have made that choice!

Slow Starts!

Everyday we each have a moment where we feel ourselves starting to slip, starting to get upset, starting to get grouchy! Sometimes we feel it too late and realize we are being a jerk, out just generally grouchy. Sometimes we feel it coming but can't reset out direction. Other days it's just a slow start, a moment we get to make a decision on who we will be today!

How do we make it a slow start? How do we reset before we pass a bad mood on to someone else? I wish I knew!

What I do know is we need to find the energy to fight on, we need to make sure we pass on more positive than negative, we need to do damage control! Some days are one step at a time, many deep breaths, many refocused thoughts. Find a spot in time or a smiling face to focus on and don't let it go. We all have that something that makes us smile, we need to keep that thought in our back pocket, and we need to take a moment now and again to go to that thought! On a world full of noise and full of critisizm it is our role to be the beacon light, and to be the beacon light we need a source for our energy.

So if you are feeling that mood sinking in, feeling that frustration building, go find your focus point. Look around and find that smile! Let someone else's beacon light energize you and lift you up. The let yourself spread that same energy. For the extraverts in the world remember you charge your battery by charging others!

Who is the Judge?

"Anything you say can and will be held against you."

"You will be judged by a Jury of your peers!"

"You are innocent until proven guilty!"

Little phrases in life often drift by us, or we feel they must be for someone else. We assume it isn't us, it can't be me or it must be one of "those" people. We judge everyone and have gotten to the point many people constantly feel judged. We don't take the time "to walk a mile in their shoes!" We are so worried what other people think of us that we automatically deflect our feelings of guilt, inadequacy, misunderstanding and shame onto others. We don't look inward to see why we feel that way and we rarely try to understand someone else's situation. For that matter we rarely stand face to face with someone that we are judging. We all want to be the Judge and Jury, but never the executioner.

How have we come to this place? How do we change? How do we better ourselves and those around us?

The funny thing is not much has changed, society has always had these problems! Unfortunately what use to be chatter around a coffee table or  water cooler is now posted everywhere! People don't have to wonder what people are thinking, people post it in one way or another, sometimes it's direct, sometimes it is a back handed complement, sometimes it's an attempt to boost one's own ego that shatters another's.

So let's all slow down, and remember to lend a hand, lend an ear. Take the time to understand someone, to feel for them and be there for them! The best way to boost your ego is to help someone else, to know that you have been a step up instead of a strike against. Understand what your words mean, remember there are people out there, people that feel, that love and that hurt. Take the time to give someone a hug, take a friend for coffee and listen to what they have to say. Pick the phone up and call someone who may need you or miss you. Remember to love and be loved!

Don't forget to stretch.

Each day is our own workout. Some days leave you feeling energized and inspired, other days leave you exhausted but satisfied, Some leave you torn apart and questioning how you will keep your head up, and the rest fall anywhere in between.

The thing with life is you don't always get to pick your workout, you may expect a leasurly walk and end up doing a P90x shred! The part that is similar is its not the workout but how you react, how you stretch out and how you get started the next day. If you are left feeling like a bag of pulp, you have to get up the next day, you have to stretch and get moving again, the longer you sit the more you will hurt. You will stop hurting but if you sit too long then you have gained nothing. Sometime you learn just how deep you can dig to make that happen.

When you feel empty, reach out, look for someone to spot you. You just need to know someone has your back, and someone always does! Listen and open your mind, that spot may come from an unexpected place, from a stranger who sees that look on your face and offers a word of kindness, from long lost friends who know your pain or from your loved ones. Just remember to take the hand, to let them take the weight for a moment as you get your grip. Don't listen to the neigh says, they chose not to get up a long time ago and they still hurt and instead of working past it they want everyone to hurt.

Each day is a new workout. Each day is a lesson and a chance for you to grow stronger. Remember to not only build your strength but to take care of your heart. Any good athlete will tell you the importance of cardio! Now get up, stretch out and start running! You will get where you are going!

Find a Hero!

Constantly in today's world I hear people say how terrible their parents were, how they will raise their kids better. I see people talk about all the mistakes of their upbringing, the follies, the challenges, how they didn't have this or didn't have that. They idolize people they have never met and choose hero's for their powers not for their morals. People slip away into fantasy worlds and cannot figure out why they have not found utopia.

I was once asked who my hero was, I stared blankly and said I don't have one. Years later I asked a group of students who their hero was, but I premised it with, "a hero is not perfect but someone who inspires you." The one girl told me of her mother, how amazing she was, how strong she was, now minutes earlier this 15 year old girl told me how she worked part time after school to help support her mom and sister. With this she still saw her mom as strong, as inspirational and her hero. It left me floored, all these kids in their early 20's, who never worked a day in their life and had their parents paying for university complained how flawed their parents were, but this girl, who at 15 was working to help put food on the table saw her mom as a hero!

The realization is a hero is not perfect, a hero is someone who over comes, who gives you values so you can see right from wrong and point you in the right direction. A hero is flawed but they know it, and they give everything they have to make your life better, to give you more then they had.... But a hero doesn't complain, they fight, they push through and move past history and use it as a lesson instead of an anchor. Within this, if you want to know how to break a hero, just let them know you don't appreciate them, if you want to build a hero, let them see that their values are what drives you forward.

Go out and find a hero, but don't look to far! Soon after this go and become a hero, be that person others look up to. Once you do find the strength to be a hero, you will find other hero's all around you, you will see inspiration in so many people it will floor you. We all have a little hero in us!

Who will you be?

As I stood in the checkout line at the grocery store I read through the titles on the magazine's in front of me. I see two vast differences, many focus on potential dirty little secrets of celebreties, others talk about greatness or ways to spruce things up in your life or your house. I can't help but think these magazine's really represent who we choose to be in our life.

Each day we have a choice, we can focus and worry about others little secrets or we choose to improve our lives everyday. The reality is we all have little secrets, little faults, little challenges, but if that is all we focus on we become little people. Of we choose to improve, to be better then we were the day before we will grow. We can build up ourselves, and become an inspiration. Show our strength to others so they focus on our qualities and our faults can fade away.

Each day we can stand up and be better, worry about how we are impacting others, how we are improving our lives and the lives of others. We need to avoid worrying if others have more faults or more strengths. We all outshine others in one way and others outshine us in others. As we all focus on the good and move away from jealousy we grow as people and as humans.

Positive change

They only cause damage! Take your drama somewhere else! I don't need you in my life.

So often we push people away in a negative way. We assume because we don't connect that they must be a bad person. They must be a negative person. Why do we do this, why is it a negative perspective we take when the piece doesn't fit. How do we change our perspective to a positive twist. We must find a way to realize that just because someone doesn't fit with us, just because we bring out the bad in each other does not make them or us a bad person.

Think of relationships like magnets. Do you remember playing with magnets as a kid, you would be building a train or creating a design and suddenly as you place the one magnet it pushes the rest away, it is a polar opposite. We don't get angry at that piece, we move it around see if it will fit, try a different angle and if it still doesn't fit we set it aside and maybe try it later. Why can't we treat relationships the same way. When it doesn't fit, when we push each other away, step away, don't get angry, don't discount this person or yourself, just walk away and see if you learned anything.

Take time in life to realize that almost everyone has a positive side. We are all human and sometimes we don't fit together, but we fit with someone, we make someone happy and a better person. Stop pushing people away and assuming they are poisonous because you didn't fit. This attitude only adds poison to your life. Any time you reflect an attitude toward someone else you take a bit of that on yourself. So look at them, see the positive but know you have to walk away. Be happy, be positive and remember that we all have value.

White noise

The better you do the more attention you draw. The harder you fight the bigger you challenges will be, and the greater our victories. Everyday we fight to succeed, each of us push to get to our next level! In that fight we face a constant feedback from those around us. The better we do the more people feel they need to give feedback.

How do we sort through that feedback. How do we convert compliments and criticism into motivation? We need to keep our head up, we need to hear the feedback and instantly filter, is their value to be gained or is it just jealousy? Can I take this and become stronger or is someone just trying to pull me down? Most people have the best of intentions so normally with a quick filter we can find feedback, we can learn a quick lesson on how our actions impact those around us. In that though we cannot dwell. We must continue to strive forward. If you stop you will get stuck, for a minute for and hour or for a day, but if you stop you will get stuck.

So learn to know that all criticism and all compliments are only feedback. Filter it and use it to make you stronger, move forward and live stronger.

Knocked down.

One thing I have learned over time is I would prefer to get physically knocked down 100 times before getting mentally knocked down. One can be physically beaten and remain mentally strong. One can be broken and bruised and still have mental resolve.

When ones mental resolve begins to slip it is a different story. It comes with time, little things chop away at it. One day you feel like you are falling behind, but you catch up the next day. Another day you feel like you are slipping a bit, but you but things back together. Then you find you aren't sleeping, too much to worry about. You start to lose confidence, but you find strength and get yourself running again.

Then one day you mentally break, all mental focus falls down, you question your resolve. It may have been the smallest thing, but it knocks you right out. You question your actions, your choices, you go over everything in your head 100 times. You start questioning the things in your life that are working, just because it can't make sense that anything is working at this point.

Now.... How do you reset, how do you start to rebuild. When you question your ability to do everything you know, how do you put yourself back together?

You start small! You do rebuild. You start changing habits, guarantee you are sabotaging yourself now everyday. You are losing yourself in time sinks, you are focusing on your flaws not your strengths. So you start again! You can't and don't want to become who you were before, that person broke, you need to improve, you need to move forward one step at a time and start recreating yourself. Take all the positives and bring them along, use them as your foundation. But every time you find a weakness, drop kick it right out the door. The only way to find your resolve is once again prove that you can rebuild, that the only reason you broke is because you were too strong, you lost flexibility and lost focus. Inspire yourself, motivate yourself and focus on the silver lining.

Moments

A moment passes and we sit wondering where it has gone. A past moment flashes through our mind and a wave emotions sweeps over us. This thing we call life is just a blur of moments all put together.

When we are young we are told not to waste a moment, as we get older we are often told that we won't forget this moment. As a parent we try to capture and hold every moment. And finally we cherish the moments we have had.

As I sit and reflect, as I struggle to find the energy, the strength, that I need to get through I suddenly notice moments slipping past. I realize that in my struggle to find happiness I am actually letting it slip away. Moments are fleeting and our strength becomes just the same. I need to get to my feet, but first I need to take a moment. Now I stop and look around. In my weakness comes my haste, how can I regain my strength, how can I find the answers to get through.

I see now that the answer is in the moments, all the moments around me. I need to take a moment more to love, a moment longer to hold. I need to cherish the moments when I smile, cherish the moments when my loved ones laugh. I start to gather all my moments, hold them close but not lose myself in them. I must embrace the moments I have had and strive to create new memories everyday.

To move forward we must hold what we have, celebrate the moments of love, of laughter and of joy. At the same time we must always move forward, we must search for more love, more laughter and more joy. If we don't see it around us, then create it. Laugh for no reason at all, stand up and dance well after the music has stopped. Scream when you need to scream and cry when you need to cry, but when you are done reflect on a moment that made you smile and carry that forward to make you stronger, not the pain, just the joy. Live in the moment, for the moment!

Through the trees.

As I climbed the hill I stopped for a moment to look out over the area I had come from. Then I looked straight out. I could see a break in the trees but no matter how hard I looked I could not focus on the trees in the distance. My eyes would not move focus from the trees nearest me. For a moment I found focus half way, but could not clearly see the trees out ahead of me. I turned and started to work the rest of the way up the hill, it was steep and I am out of shape. Nearing the top my heart pounded and my muscles asked for a break. I would not stop, I had to reach the top! Finally I crested, I slowed to a walk and worked through the pain the was washing through me.

This run brought a reminder of clarity to me. No matter how hard we look to the future it is never clear. The more that is currently around us the harder it is to understand what the future will hold. Though there was beauty around me, I didn't want to see it, I wanted to move forward and see what was beyond the trees. At these moments we need to remember, we will get there. The trees, the noise around us it where we are, we must see it, slow and recognize what is around us. Focus on the leaves, see the branches. This help make the path more clear. Push forward and in time we will get to where we want to be.

The other point of clarity came in the last steps of the hill. Sometimes life hurts, some times it rips us apart from the inside, sometimes we just want to give in. But we can't we have to push through. There are points that if we stop and feel the pain we will only fall, lose ground and sometimes become lost. If we can keep going, dig deep and find the last bit of strength we will have time to recover, there are breaks, sometime that break is only slowing from a run to a walk, but it is still a break. Look around as you push, find a hand hold, pull with all your strength. Just because you are on your feet, doesn't mean you can't reach out and use your hands. See the trees use them to pull forward.

When we connect the little things when we appreciate what is right beside us, what is just a bit in front of us, we find the strength to get to the next phase. No one ever said it was going to be easy, no one ever said it would be this hard either. But inside we all have strength, around us each of us have trees to lean on. Dig deep, push through, don't forget to look around you, see the trees, and at the same time, keep your head up and know there is a path through the forest. You will come through and you will be scratched, you will hurt and you will be stronger.
